Title
WALLASEY CORPORATION
Description
Established in 1858 by the Wallasey Local Board of Health, the works were built on Dock Road / Gorsey Lane. The undertaking supplied New Brighton, Poulton, Seacombe and Egremont. The works were continually extended and developed with a railway built to supply the works in 1901 and additional improvements made in 1903, 1910 and 1913. By 1918 the works were too small and land adjoining the old site was acquired for further extensions. The 'new' works were built between 1920 and 1922. In 1933 Wallasey Corporation were authorised to purchase the Saughall Massie 'undertaking' from Hoylake UDC and the right to supply Bidston and Upton which had formerly been part of Birkenhead Corporation's area of supply. At nationalisation the Wallasey undertaking became part of the Wirral Group of the NWGB. The records in this collection are mainly technical and include a series of mains sketch books. There is also a managers notebook and a set of accounts.
