Title
HOLLINGWORTH GAS COMPANY LTD.
Description
This company was formed in 1875 as a limited company. The works were on Woolley Lane in the parish of Mottram. The undertaking was in financial difficulties by 1939 and the company borrowed money from the North Cheshire and District Gas Co with whom negotiations also began for a proposed amalgamation. The company was acquired by the UKGC in 1939 and Glossop Gas Co began to supply gas in bulk to Hollingworth in 1940. By 1941 gas manufacture at Hollingworth ceased. The undertaking continued to trade until nationalisation in 1949 when it vested in the North Cheshire Group of the NWGB. There are administrative and financial records in this collection.
