Title
PRESCOT & DISTRICT GAS COMPANY
Description
Formed in 1834 by Deed of Settlement, the Prescot Gas Co was incorporated by AoP in 1867. The works were at Hackley Moss, later to become Moss St. Additional Acts were obtained in 1880 and 1915 when the works site was extended. In 1929 the company took over the Rainhill Gas Co and changed its name to the Prescot and District Gas Co. Gas was supplied to parts of Whiston, Eccleston, Rainhill and Knowsley village. A showroom was acquired in Eccleston St in 1927. The undertaking was absorbed by the UKGC Ltd in 1935 and it became part of the Liverpool Group of the NWGB in 1949. There are only administrative and personnel records in this collection. [1930 - 1948]
