TitleNELSON CORPORATION
DescriptionEstablished in 1860, a private gasworks supplying Nelson and Brierfield was established at a local mill. In 1866 Nelson Local Board of Health was authorised to purchase the works which were in Brierfield on Leeds Rd. An Act of 1888 established the area of supply and the boundaries with the Brierfield Local Board of Health, as well as forming Nelson LB into a Corporation. A further Act of 1924 enabled the works to expand and in 1949 the undertaking vested in the Burnley-Colne Group of the NWGB. This collection contains only financial accounts. [1897, 1948]
